Cites Al Weed’s experience as a small business owner who can help change Washington
Alexandria, Virginia -- Virginia Governor Mark Warner has endorsed retired Command Sergeant Major Al Weed's candidacy for Virginia's Fifth congressional district seat.
"Al Weed understands the needs of the people of the Fifth District,” said Governor Warner. “Al will bring vision and leadership to the economic challenges of the region. He’s running for office for the same reason I did: because you shouldn’t have to leave your hometown to get a good job. Al also comes from the business world, where doing nothing is never an acceptable result. That’s not how it is in Washington, and it’s time for a change. That’s why I’m supporting Al Weed for Congress.”
"Governor Warner has been an extraordinary leader for Virginia and I am honored that he is putting his record and prestige behind my campaign,” said Mr. Weed. “Governor Warner truly understands how to bring people from all different backgrounds together to serve the common good. I am eager to serve in the Warner tradition in Congress."
As Governor, Mark Warner practiced common-sense leadership, bringing the state out of deficit and creating jobs. His bi-partisan and fiscally responsible leadership helped result in Virginia being ranked "best managed state in the nation" by Governing magazine, as well as maintaining its triple-A bond rating.
Governor Warner focused his business sense on improving the lives of Virginians. A series of education reforms championed by Governor Warned helped lay the groundwork for major new investments in Southside Virginia. Unemployment rates in dropped drastically thanks to his work to recruit businesses to the area and expand economic development.
"I admire the leadership of Governor Warner in Southside and I will follow his example in Congress to bring common-sense solutions to the people of the Fifth District" said Mr. Weed. "Together, we can make a change to secure the future for our children."
