This is the second in a series of releases outlining
Republican incumbent Virgil Goode’s pay to play
politics.
Mr. Goode often claims that his involvement in the
MZM scandal was good for the Martinsville area. He
cites MZM brought business to local contractors. He
does not mention that the only contractors to win
bids also donated to Goode’s campaign.
“Contractors should not have to pay a tithe to their
congressman to get business. It is very suspect to
me that the only people involved in this deal were
friends and contributors of Mr. Goode. Yet again I
ask the question, who is he working for? Many
people in central and Southside Virginia can’t afford
to donate to a campaign. What has he done for
them?
Bowles Properties received a $1,530,000 contract.
Triangle Electric received a $345,192 contract.
Prillaman and Pace received a $60,000 contract.
Executives from these companies donated nearly
$3,000 to Goode before receiving these contracts.
“The general contractor got about $350,000 out of
it”, Goode said (min. 29) Once again, Goode
neglects to mention what he got out of it.
There are thousands of good, hardworking citizens in
the Fifth District. They are asking for good wages,
job security, and access to quality healthcare.
Unfortunately most of them are competing on an
uneven playing field against Goode’s financial
contributors.
