Al Weed has received the endorsement of the National Farmers
Union. President Tom Buis writes in a letter
announcing the endorsement that the NFU, “seeks to
support candidates for federal office who are
committed to ensuring that the public policy needs of
family farmers, ranchers, and the communities in
which they live are addressed. You have
demonstrated that commitment, and we thank
you.”
Weed responded to the endorsement saying, “I am
honored to receive the endorsement of the National
Farmers Union. I have owned and operated a family
farm for over 30 years and know the important issues
faced by the thousands of family farmers in central
and Southside Virginia. It is this personal knowledge
and experience I will take to Washington.”
The National Farmers Union agrees with Al on many
issues. Three of the most
important are expanding
opportunities for renewable energy, especially
ethanol and biodiesel; improving rural health care,
education, and transportation; and expanding trade
policies that are fair to America’s farmers.
“With the support of the National Farmers Union and
farm communities across our district, I will fight in
Washington for policies that will protect our family
farms and our rural heritage. I look forward to that
opportunity,” Weed said.
