Voters wonder, "Which Republican is running?"
Friday, October 13, 2006
Voters in Henry, Franklin, and Fluvanna Counties are wondering which Republican is running for Congress. Democrat Al Weed traveled to the three counties this week, answered tough questions, and talked about the important issues facing central and Southside Virginia. Each day he was met by a different Republican, none of whom is running for Congress.

“I thought I was running against Virgil Goode, but now I’m not so sure. I’m out here meeting people and talking about my record, but where is he? But I don’t blame him. If I had his record, I would be hiding too,” said Weed.

Goode’s website made no mention of any campaign events. He has been conspicuously absent from press reports. When asked by a reporter where he would be Tuesday evening during the Henry County forum, Goode refused to answer. Tucker Watkins who represented the Republincan party in Henry County, was asked the same question. Watkins answered that he did not know becuase he had not asked.

“That’s just like Mr. Goode not asking Mitchell Wade if the money was illegal. Don’t ask don’t tell is a safe policy. Mr. Watkins knows just as well as the voters in Henry County that Mr. Goode had nothing to do that evening. He was just afraid to debate Al Weed,” said Weed spokesman Curt Gleeson.

“Mr. Goode has the nerve to accuse me of hiding from my record. The voters are not going to fall for his tricks any longer,” Weed continued.

Wednesday Goode was asked if he would visit members of United Steel Workers Local 831 who are on strike in Danville. He responded that he would talk to anyone about any issue at any time. “Mr. Goode knows the easy thing to say, but actions speak louder than words. If he really wants to talk about the issues, he would have shown his face this week,” Weed said.
