Less than one week after releasing an ad attacking
Al Weed, Virgil Goode is refusing to participate in a
forum with Weed. Goode’s ad did not address his
connections with criminal contractors, it only
accused Weed of hiding from his record.
“I have never hid from my views or my record, but
tomorrow night Mr. Goode will be hiding from his. I
was looking forward to discussing the issues with Mr.
Goode. He has no problems making false
accusations, but refuses to engage in discussion.
That’s dissapointing,” said Weed.
Tuesday, October 3rd, the Earlysville Area Residents’
League will host a candidate’s forum. Despite
repeated invitations since the beginning of the July,
Goode only response has been, “I’ll get back to
you.”
“Again, Mr. Goode is neglecting his constituents. It
just shows how much he cares for the citizens of
Earlysville. They went through the trouble to
organize the event and gave both campaigns plenty
of notice. All he has done is give them the
runaround. We deserve better,” Weed said.
Weed accepted the invitation without condition, and
will attend the event Tuesday evening. He is eager
to answer tough questions and share his positive
vision for central and Southside Virginia. The forum
will be from 7:00pm to 9:00pm and will be held in the
cafeteria of the Brodadus Wood Elementary School at
185 Buck Mountain Road.
Weed and Goode have received invitations to debate
from thirteen organizations. To date Goode has
refused outright the Fieldale-Collinsville Rotary Club;
has not given an answer to the Albemarle/Fluvanna
League of Women Voters; told Longwood University
that he would attend a debate only if they co-host
with Hampden Sydney; will not personally attend a
debate at the Fork Union Military Academy, and told
Ferrum College that he may or may not show
up.
Goode has yet to give response to four other
invitations; WDBJ, WYAT, Morning Star Holy Church,
and the Danville American Legion.
