Virgil Goode has released a new false and misleading
television ad attempting to distract voters from his
questionable record and suspect dealing with
convicted criminals. Goode’s ad states that a recent
advertisement from Al Weed is “not telling the truth
about Virgil Goode,” and erroneously claims that local
newspapers agree.
Al Weed’s ad states that Goode took illegal money
from Mitchell Wade and Richard Berglund, and then
wrote an earmark that rewarded those men with up
to $15 million in wasteful Pentagon contracts. These
facts have been consistently reported over the last
two years, and are well documented at
www.goodefacts.com.
“I was looking forward to Mr. Goode’s response, as I
thought he was going to come clean on his dealings
with Mr. Wade and Mr. Berglund. I was disappointed
to see that he, once again, underestimated the
intelligence of the voters in our district and skirted
the important issue of his record,” Weed said of
Goode’s new ad.
“Goode is recklessly distorting reality here, and
should be ashamed. The citizens of the district have
had enough of his manipulations and will get the
honest representative they deserve when they elect
Al Weed on November 7th,” said Weed spokesman
Curt Gleeson.
A correction was made to Weed’s ad when it was
found that federal prosecutors decided to charge
Richard Berglund with only a misdemeanor. The ad
was quickly pulled, fixed, and put back on the air
correctly labeling Berglund as a criminal.
“I admitted my mistake and apologized to Mr.
Berglund. The voters of this district are still waiting
for Mr. Goode to apologize for his dealings with
corrupt contractors. I imagine we will have to wait
for a long time. This is not behavior fitting of a
congressman,” Weed said.
